Nursery Tour

Well, I finally did it, I finished the nursery! I wanted to make as many things in here as possible, so that's why it took me so long. And you thought I was just being lazy!
We'll begin our virtual tour where you first enter the room. On our left are two wall mounted shelves (painted with the help of the lovely and talented Nancy). Here we find a few familiar faces, the elephant shrew, the dachshund lamp, and Karla's elephant, along with a few new faces that include some toys that belonged to my husband as a child.
Moving on to the second shelf, is a stuffed owl I made, a pink rubber duck (everyone needs one of those, right?) and soft letter blocks that my mom helped me finish.
Below the shelves is an white dresser that I made into a changing station. I made the pad using some vinyl coated fabric I purchased at Corn Wagon in Springville (they have the cutest vinyl coated fabric around, if you're in the market) and I got the pad inside at JoAnn's. I also made pockets to go on either side to hold all my diaper changing necessities.
As we continue our way around the room, on the next wall hang a couple of needle point pieces that my grandpa made a long time ago. (Yes, grandpa! He was one of my biggest crafting inspirations.) Next to those is a nice bright window with a patchwork curtain. This was actually the first decor item I made for the room, and was the fabric inspiration for most everything else, including something hanging from the ceiling to our right.
The mobile! I made the birds for the mobile using a pattern I found here, and I attached them to an embroidery hoop, trimmed with pom-poms, fabric, and ribbon. I got the idea to use pom-poms from Lovely by M's mobile. And my mom helped make the bias tape that covers the hoop.
Below the mobile is the crib, a gift from my husband's parents. Hanging on the side of the crib are a couple of afghans my husband's grandma made, and a quilt from Nancy is there to prevent soothie's from falling behind the crib. Yes, this happened once in the middle of the night. Not fun. Around the base of the crib is a crib skirt that is made using the same fabrics as in the curtain. (Okay, so part of the reason everything is made out of the same fabrics, is, well, I bought way too much. I'm really bad at trying to figure out how much fabric I need for a project, and tend to buy about twice as much as I need. Let's just say, I still have more. Maybe I'll make a quilt or something.) To the right of the crib is a painting I did in high school, that happens to co-ordinate with the room. Awesome.

And down inside the crib is the best part of the nursery. :)
Thanks to everyone who helped me finish all my projects!

Happy Valentines Day!

What's that, you say? Valentines was over a week and a half ago? Well, the decorations are still up at my house! And I'm just now getting around to blogging about them. What can I say, I'm a little slow. I have a box full of vintage Valentines I found at my grandparent's house that I've kept, and this year I decided to frame some of them with some scrapbook paper for Valentine's Decorations. What do you think?

Also my sweet husband gave me some lovely flowers. He bought two bouquets so I could combine them into one arrangement since he knows I like to arrange flowers. So thoughtful, that one. I think I'll keep him!

And I got him this DVD, because, you know, he's a rock star.

Dachshund Lamp

Back in August, I made my first purchase for the nursery. It is a lamp shaped like a dachshund. I think it's adorable, and it gives off the perfect amount of light to be an ideal night light. I love it. When I tried to explain it to people, they gave me lots of interesting looks. I would try to reassure them, "I know it sounds weird, but I promise it's really cute!" I don't know if anyone believes me until they see it. I thought I'd post pictures for those of you that my have heard about it, but hadn't seen it in person yet. Apparently I'm not the only one that thinks it is the perfect accessory for a child's room. Look at all the pictures below of other peoples nurseries and children's rooms with this lamp. And these are just ones that I've happened upon while doing my blog surfing, not specifically looking for this lamp.

So there, I'm not crazy weird, I'm crazy like a fox (or dachshund).
Our nursery is still a work-in-progress, but I promise to post pictures once it's all done!

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-BOO! {and a GIVEAWAY!}

Halloween pumpkins are up! The big reddish-orange ones are called Cinderella pumpkins and they're gorgeous. All the little ones are just small pumpkins covered in glitter.

In other news, this is my 100th post! Don't worry, my one year blogiversary came and went with out me even noticing. However, in honor of the 100th post, I think a giveaway is in order, don't you? I'm just not totally decided on what the giveaway should be. So, the giveaway is up to you! A custom piece of jewelry just for you! Necklace, bracelet, earrings, whatever. Once the winner is selected, we'll have a little consultation and then I'll make YOUR piece of jewelry. Awesome, right?

Giveaway ends Sunday at 12:00am MST, so sign up already!

Long Weekend

Don't you love long weekends? I got to go shopping with Stacey on Saturday. Picked up one of these for the front room.
I also made two of these for my mother-in-law's birthday, and with raspberry, blueberry, strawberry and lemon topping choices. Delicious.

Hot Air Balloons Make Me Happy

I caught the tail end of an episode of "Deserving Design" last night and this was the nursery they created for a baby boy.

Cute, huh? That chair is actually a gilder, and apparently the crib will convert to a "big boy" bed. Nice. But my favorite part are those hot air balloons. I think I want a few for me!

Merry Christmas to You!

Don't worry, I set up my decorations and took these pictures over a week ago (probably more like two weeks ago). I'm just now getting around to posting about it. The tree is real, I made the banner last year, and thank you, mom, for the cute little village.

Fall Leaves and Family Trees

Last week we got a note on our door saying the HOA was coming to paint our door on Thursday, and someone needed to be home between 10:00am and 4:00pm to unlock the door so they could take it off the hinges and paint it. Kind of a ridiculous span of hours, but, hey, I get my door painted. So I would have to stay home from work. Shucks. But I would have to plan on staying home all day, so I did a little shopping Wednesday night at JoAnn's and Michael's, and bought supplies for projects to keep me busy. First I worked on a fall leaf garland to go in the front room. I cut the leaves from different colors of felt. Then I used metallic gold thread to sew "veins". Then I sewed them to brown rickrack. (The spool said it was 6ft long, but it was definitely only 5' 6", so that's why it looks a little short for the space). Then I tied the bows, attached the bells, and hung it all up with push-pins.

The picture below is of the tower I created to act as a tripod so I could get a halfway decent picture of the garland. It was all for you, Nancy, since I know you expect great things from me now, and I wouldn't want to disappoint!

After I was done with that I started working on my wire family tree. I got the branches formed and bound. I still haven't gotten pictures yet, so this project is sitting in unfinished limbo until then.

By the end of the day the door painters never came. Brian called, and apparently they had some trouble getting the paint (whatever that means), so they're coming this week sometime. Pretty ridiculous, huh? He told them they'd have to work around us this time, since they didn't feel the need to tell us before I took a paid day off work. But, hey, at least I was productive on my day off.
